In 2011, when I was 16 years old, the Libyan uprising reached my hometown of Zuwara, Libya. Picking up a point and shoot camera, I began photographing what was happening around me, ultimately volunteering with a local media center that was covering the demonstrations in the streets. Before long, I was working with Libya’s first TV channel broadcasting all its programs in the Tamazight Language of the Indigenous Amazigh people: Ibraren TV. As an Amazigh person myself, I was proud to work in the production and directing of six weekly shows as well as varied promotional content and news reports in my native language.
When I came to Canada, I started my videography business anew and began filming weddings. I put my heart and soul into this work and feel extremely lucky to do what I love: capturing in permanence those ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ moments for my clients. To me, videography is a way to tell a story through those little details that might be missed by an untrained eye. When shooting I can be found chasing the “money shot” which may happen when you least expect it!
In September of 2022, I commenced filming a docu-series for Bell Tv exploring the migration of the Semipalmated Sandpipers from the lower Canadian Arctic to the balmy wintering grounds of northern South America. Peep will complete this 4,000 kilometer, 72-hour non-stop flight over the open ocean to reach his destination, facing numerous threats along the way. PEEP is available to watch here:https://tv1.bell.ca/fibetv1/shows/peep-the-great-migration. . What’s ahead: I have recently rebranded my videography company AN Production to become AN Media. I aim to begin providing a more comprehensive marketing service to clients, including video, photo, written and other promotional content.
